~~ About Tony ~~

Tony

Roberto Antonio Rolon, "Tony", was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 5, 1962. The son of an Air force sergeant, Tony frequently moved from base to base, but at the age of 9 his family settled in Camden Delaware. This is where Tony first found his love for the game of hockey, spending his winters playing on the frozen Moores Lake. In 1979 his family moved to Spring Hill, Florida. Upon graduation from Springstead High School, Tony attended the University of Florida before becoming employed with the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Tony worked in several capacities at the police department, from patrol officer, to vice and narcotics detective and field training. In 1985, Tony married Laurie Mauro-Rolon, his wife of 25 years and together they have two children, Christi and Cameron. They resided in Safety Harbor, FL and attended St. Matthias Lutheran Church where Tony took on roles as assistant minister and church council member. Shortly before his retirement in 2008, Tony started working as a motor cycle officer, an area of police work he most enjoyed, and became an avid motorcycle enthusiast writing articles on motor cycle safety for a local magazine.

After retirement, Tony started coaching youth ice hockey, where he rediscovered his love for the game. More than that, Tony found a passion for mentoring children involved in the sport. He initially started his coaching career with in-house recreational league hockey teams, but quickly moved on to coach with Dunedin, Tarpon, Countryside (DTC) High School and the Raiders Travel hockey teams.

Tony Rolon passed away on March 26, 2011, but in spite of this, both his high school team and Raiders travel team have gone on to participate in state, national, and international championships. His legacy continues not only through his family and church, but through the children he coached.
